Brazil legend Pele offers support to ‘son of Santos’ Neymar

Brazil legend Pele has offered his support to compatriot and Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar.

The 26-year-old has scored 18 goals in 21 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit this campaign.

Three-time World Cup winner Pele has opened up on his relationship with Neymar.

‘A father does not criticise, he educates,’ Pele told France Football. ‘He is a son of Santos.

‘I want the best for him, for Brazil, for our national team.

‘I will do anything to help and move him forward.’

Neymar has formed part of the lethal attacking triumvirate with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe for PSG but his stay in the French capital has often been called into question. He has been linked with moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The plan for Neymar when he left Barcelona in 2017 was always very clear – win the Champions League and Ballon d’Or in Paris and then make one more eye-watering, record breaking transfer, probably to Madrid.

PSG face Manchester United in the last 16 of the European competition, while the elusive Golden Ball was handed to Luka Modric and Neymar was nowhere near the favourites for the award.

Neymar and his team-mates have travelled to Qatar for a four-day winter training camp – a trip PSG make every year for training and sponsorship reasons.
